Special Weather Statement

... Big changes to affect the southern appalachian region...

A strong low pressure system will move east across the Ohio River valley tonight...pulling warm and moist air into the southern appalachian region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of its associated cold front... and move into the southern appalachian region this evening. A few of these storms may become severe this evening...bringing the possibility of damaging winds and large hail. In addition...an isolated tornado or two will be possible.

Breezy westerly winds will bring much colder air into the region on Monday...with temperatures slowly falling throughout the afternoon. Scattered snow showers are expected to develop across the higher elevations on Monday afternoon...and then gradually develop across the rest of the area on Monday night. Right now...it appears that snowfall accumulations will be possible across the higher elevations...mainly above 2500 feet. In addition to the snow...freezing temperatures are expected areawide before sunrise on Tuesday morning...and again by sunrise on Wednesday morning.

.A strong cold front will move through the southern appalachian region tonight...with much colder air moving into the region on Monday. Scattered snow showers are expected to develop across the higher elevations by Monday afternoon...and continue through Tuesday evening. Significant snow accumulations will be possible across the higher elevations by Tuesday evening...mainly above 2500 feet.

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Winter Storm Watch... which is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

Significant snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches will be possible across the higher elevations by Tuesday evening... mainly above 2500 feet. Locally higher amounts will be possible across the highest elevations above 4000 feet... including High Knob.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow...sleet...and/or ice accumulations. Future driving conditions may become hazardous...so continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Significant severe weather outbreak possible Friday for much of the TN Valley, likely including some of our area...(quicker the early rain/storms get out of the area and the more breaks in the cloud cover there are, the higher the chances)

Storm Prediction Center has a moderate category just to our south. May see some supercells develop over TN, keep aware of that and the possibility of them moving up into the area.

Tornado watches up across western/central KY and middle TN. Tornadoes have been reported on the ground from some of the storms in western KY/western and middle TN. The tornado watch stretching across middle TN goes as far east (for now) to include Knoxville and up to the KY border and including Scott County, TN (Scott borders Claiborne to the west). That tornado watch is a PDS watch. PDS=Particularly Dangerous Situation. Those are very rare and most of the major tornado outbreaks that have occurred have had those types of watches issued. So keep an eye out for those storms and any others as they race toward the area later this afternoon and this evening.

Tornado Watch up for the area, for southwest Virginia (including Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Washington, and Wise Counties), northeast TN, and eastern KY until 10 p.m. Not a PDS but still not one to take lightly. Some very dangerous storms, especially in TN, with this system.

Look at the link in my previous post. It shows a big ass cell southwest of Berea, probably the same one you heard was in Pulaski County, it's moving Northeast straight for Berea.
